Advanced Mountain small party Assisted Rescue (A-MSPAR)

June 10th at 8:30am
$285

This is the FIRST offering of a level 2 MSPAR.  TheMSPAR 1 course has been presented at 6 pastMRA conferences with huge success and interest. At the request of students, a level 2 curriculumhas been developed aimed at utilized MSPAR 1skills for more advanced problem solving andintegration with more conventional practices.  Thiscourse targets technically experienced mountainrescue personnel who may be tasked to respond tohigh urgency vertical rescues with minimal gearand personnel.  This course utilizes the four basicSPAR concepts / skills that enable a team of 3 or 4to perform high angle movements and extricationsusing only the gear on their harness and a lengthof rope. Graduates of the course will be able tomove responders, patients, and liters up, down, and over vertical obstacles with only their basic kitplus 4 or 5 additional contingency pieces.  Courseincludes integrated drills to combine skill sets anddevelop speed. This course will change how youlook at contingency rigging and high urgencyresponses, without sacrificing safety.  It will giveyou powerful tools to rescue your own teammatesmid operation…one of the best benefits of this typeof advanced training. Although many tasks are onsingle rope, you will be shown how to maintainhigh SSSF’s and internally engineered redundancy.2 rope techniques will be included as well…as,most techniques can be used this way. Thecaveat, is you need vertical mobility skills.  Sinceone of those skills is using your body weight(counterweight) as a haul effort, proficiency insingle rope technique (climbing a rope withascenders and being able to transition to rappel) isrequired.  Participants will be required on the firstmorning to demonstrate they have a safe andfunctional rope climbing system, have the ability toascend / descend a rope, and perform a change-in-direction (changeover) mid-air, and pass a knot. This is not a beginner’s course. You shouldalready have a basic understanding of simple andcompound mechanical advantage systems, and becomfortable traveling rope up and down. Gear list, and videos of acceptable systems and entryrequirements will be sent after registration.  Beprepared to be on rope for most of the course.
